Radio2Funky is coming to FM Postponed until further notice

Radio2Funky, Leicester's leading urban music radio station, has been awarded a full-time Community Radio License, taking the internet based station to broadcasting on FM.

Set up in 2012 by 2Funky Arts Director Vijay Mistry, the station is run by volunteers and local DJ’s and provides an ideal platform for artist development, as well as training for media based careers. Vijay says: “This is an amazing development for our station and will complement the work of 2Funky Arts massively through linking in with events, artists and volunteers.”

Leicester is a vibrantly diverse and youthful city, so Radio2Funky is a great fit as it is rooted in arts, culture and local city life. The station is a dynamic platform, serving mainly people aged 16-35  who have an interest in urban music and arts.

Radio2Funky is preparing to launch on FM in 2020, with a fresh new programme schedule reflecting a local audience, and will provide a range of opportunities for people living in Leicester to be part of the running of the station and its content. Over the past 5 years, we have been committed to promoting homegrown talent and the station will continue to support emerging Leicester artists, as well as enabling young people to acquire skills and find pathways into the radio and music industries.

Check back soon for more updates and exciting new opportunities!

UPDATE:

Due to the developing COVID-19 situation, we have taken the decision to delay the launch of Radio2Funky FM. We are disappointed to have to delay in the final phase of launch, however, everyone's health is the most important priority at this time. This allows all our volunteers and staff to observe the government advice of staying home to help slow the spread of the virus.

We are still continuing to prepare behind the scenes and will be keeping you updated. We have great DJs and presenters who have been working hard preparing for their new shows, so we are considering broadcasting online in the meantime. Radio2Funky has been entertaining people online for 8 years and in these uncertain times, it's even more important to help to keep spirits up. Volunteers can also stay involved remotely for those who would like to. More on this to follow.

We will of course launch FM when it's safe to do so again.
In the meantime, stay home and take care of yourselves.

Radio2Funky Team.
